We Treat Lower Back Pain
Lower back pain is a common musculoskeletal disorder found in adults who are 30 years of age and older. Many of our patients at Gavric Chiropractic are treated for low back pain relief. That's because chiropractic care is an effective way of reducing or eliminating lower back pain without the risk of complications from surgery or the dangers of medications.
Some Common Causes of Lower Back Pain
Lower back pain can develop with or without a traumatic event. It is classified as acute or chronic. An acute lower back muscle strain or ligament sprain can be caused by something as simple as bending over to tie a shoe, lifting a heavy object, or participating in physical sports. Chronic lower back pain involves more serious conditions that can include the following:
- Degenerative Disc Disease: Discs wear down and lose hydration during the aging process. They provide less of a cushion between vertebrae and weaken, causing narrowing of the spine.
- Disc Herniations: When a disc herniates, the tough outer layer breaks and the gelatinous substance inside of the disc leaks out. That leakage puts pressure on the spinal nerve root next to the herniated disc, causing severe pain and loss of range of motion.
- Sciatica: The sciatic nerve branches on both sides of the lower spine, across the hips, into the buttocks, and down the legs to the feet. It is the largest nerve in the human body. The condition is caused by one or more displaced vertebrae or a bulging or herniated disc. Serious sciatic pain can follow the nerve down the leg to the foot.
- Spinal Stenosis: This is a narrowing of the spinal canal that causes nerve compression. When stenosis is in the lower back, the symptoms might be similar to those of sciatica.
Lower Back Pain Relief from Our Chiropractor
The foundation of chiropractic treatment is based on gentle adjustments of the spine that are intended to return its component parts to their natural positions. It can provide low back pain relief and restore a patient's mobility and range of motion. Other therapies such as electric muscle stimulation, massage, or stretching and strengthening exercises may be used to supplement chiropractic care.
